Popcorn is an American Icon
Popcorn has long been a popular snack food. In fact, researchers have found popcorn in New Mexico that archeologists believe was grown in 3600 BC. The first popcorn sold near movie theaters occurred in the late 1800s when Charles Cretors invented the first steam driven popcorn machine introduced at Chicago’s Columbian Exposition. In 1917 the steam powered popcorn popper was replaced by electrical models and the first popcorn was sold at a movie called The Birth of a Nation.
